Big relief: 8.99 lakh households eligible for free drinking water scheme in Kerala

Palakkad, Kerala: The eligibility verification process for applicants under the free drinking water scheme has been completed, with 8,99,652 households across the state approved to receive the benefit.

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) offers a free drinking water scheme for BPL (Below Poverty Line) families, providing up to 15,000 litres of water per month.

The government began updating the existing beneficiary list and accepting new applications on January 1. The authorities clarified that applicants who received water bills during the verification period will be refunded, with the amount credited back to their bank accounts.

A total of 10,05,761 applications, both new and existing, were received for the scheme. The eligibility screening was conducted using data from the Civil Supplies Department to confirm BPL status.

However, 4,191 applicants were excluded due to discrepancies in ration card details, while 9,981 applicants were disqualified for having pending dues.

Eligible users are required to apply through the official online portal (bplapp.kwa.kerala.gov.in). All beneficiaries, including those living in rented houses, must ensure that their water meters are functional and clear any outstanding dues to qualify for the scheme.
