A devastating fire broke out inside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Prasad Hospital in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district early Thursday morning, leaving at least three people dead and several others feared to have lost their lives, according to district administration officials.
The incident triggered a large-scale emergency response, with fire services and rescue teams rushing to the hospital soon after the blaze was reported.
Authorities confirmed that the fire has now been brought under control, though the aftermath has left behind a grim scene inside the critical care ward.
District Magistrate of Muzaffarpur, Subrat Kumar Sen, confirmed the fatalities while indicating that the death toll could rise as more details emerge. Speaking on the incident, he stated that multiple lives were lost after the fire rapidly spread within the ICU unit of the hospital. He further noted that firefighting teams responded promptly and managed to contain the flames before they could engulf other parts of the medical facility.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, officials are expected to initiate a detailed investigation into the incident, including possible lapses in hospital safety protocols, electrical faults, or equipment-related triggers.
This tragic incident comes at a time when concerns over fire safety in public spaces have been heightened across the country. Just a day earlier, 21 people were killed in a massive fire at a hotel building in Delhi's Malviya Nagar, intensifying nationwide scrutiny over emergency preparedness and building safety compliance.
