Colour dress once a week in schools? Kerala Govt mulls proposal

Thiruvananthapuram: The government is actively considering a proposal to allow school students in the state to wear casual clothes once a week.

General Education Minister N Samsudheen clarified that he personally agrees with the suggestion to introduce a "colour dress code" one day a week in schools.

This idea is being considered as part of creating a more joyful environment for students. However, as this is an academic matter, he added that detailed discussions are required before a final decision is made.

"Allowing students to wear casual clothes once a week is believed to help their mental well-being. Personally, I am in complete agreement with this proposal. Nevertheless, a final decision will only be taken after discussions with teachers' unions and academic experts," Minister N Samsudheen said.

Currently, similar practices are followed in some private schools. Discussions have now begun regarding extending this to all government and state-aided schools across the state.
