Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has officially announced the Eid Al Fitr 2026 public holiday schedule for employees in the private and non-profit sectors, giving millions of workers clarity on the upcoming break marking the end of Ramadan.
The announcement was confirmed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, which detailed the start date and duration of the holiday in accordance with labour regulations in the Kingdom.
Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday dates in Saudi Arabia
According to the ministry, the Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday in Saudi Arabia for private and non-profit sector employees will begin at the end of the working day on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, corresponding to 29 Ramadan 1447 AH.
The break will last four days, meaning employees will remain off duty until Saturday, March 21, 2026. Staff are expected to resume work according to their company's official schedule following the holiday period.
For the government sector, holiday schedules are typically issued separately through official circulars, with public employees also receiving several days off to mark the end of Ramadan.
Officials said the early announcement helps ensure coordination across sectors and allows families to plan travel and celebrations in advance.
How is the Eid Al Fitr 2026 date determined
Eid al-Fitr marks the first day of Shawwal, the month that follows Ramadan in the Islamic lunar calendar.
The exact date depends on the sighting of the crescent moon. If Ramadan lasts 29 days, Eid is expected to begin on Thursday, March 19, 2026. If the moon is not sighted, the fasting month will complete 30 days, pushing Eid to Friday, March 20, 2026.
Saudi authorities will officially confirm the start of Shawwal once the kingdom's moon-sighting committees complete their observations.
Because the Islamic calendar follows lunar cycles, Islamic holidays move earlier each year on the Gregorian calendar, making official announcements crucial for businesses, travellers and residents planning ahead.

Eid preparations across Saudi Arabia
With the Eid Al Fitr 2026 holidays in Saudi Arabia now announced, preparations are accelerating across the Kingdom.
Airports, shopping centres and markets in major cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam are expected to see a surge in activity as residents prepare for family gatherings, festive meals and the exchange of Eidiah, the traditional gift-giving associated with the celebration.
Although the public holiday schedule has been set, the exact Eid day will still depend on the traditional moon sighting. If Ramadan completes 29 days, Eid will begin on March 19; if it reaches 30 days, the celebration will start on March 20.
Saudi Arabia's announcement follows similar updates from neighbouring Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, helping align the Eid Al Fitr holiday period across the Gulf region.
