Fascinating story of Kerala expatriate who turned his home into World Cup museum

As the football world begins to look ahead to the next global showdown, Rahoof, a long-term expatriate based in Qatar, has transformed his residence in Poozhikunnu, Tirur, into a stunning shrine dedicated to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The house, aptly named 'The Memory Nest', serves as a private museum, meticulously curated with rare memorabilia collected during Rahoof's service as a volunteer at the historic tournament in Qatar. The house serves as a tribute to the iconic Al Bayt Stadium.

Rahoof's unique collection is the result of a prestigious assignment in the VVIP lounges of the Al Bayt and Lusail stadiums-a role offered to only a select few. Among the 150-plus items on display is a limited-edition FIFA ship model, gifted to him by a VVIP accompanying the Saudi Royal family following Saudi Arabia's historic victory over Argentina.

The gallery also features an Al Rihla match ball presented by Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, alongside replicas of the World Cup trophy, Golden Boot, and Golden Ball.

A legacy for the next generation

For Rahoof, who has worked as a heavy vehicle driver in Qatar for 20 years, the museum is more than a personal hobby; it is a historical record.

"It isn't just about the objects," Rahoof explained. "I have arranged this gallery to tell the story and history behind every single piece. My goal is to pass these memories and this rare experience down to the next generation."

The project has been a family affair, supported by his wife, Zeenath, and their four children. When Rahoof returns to Qatar for work, his family will remain the custodians of the museum.

Despite his expertise, Rahoof revealed he had to decline a formal invitation from FIFA to volunteer at the upcoming World Cup. While his passion remains undiminished, the requirement to cover his own travel expenses proved a bridge too far. For now, he is content knowing that a piece of footballing history lives on in the heart of Malappuram.
