Tiruchirappalli: Tiruchirappalli witnessed scenes of celebration as Chief Minister Joseph C Vijay arrived in the city and was accorded a warm reception by supporters, party workers and local residents.
Upon his arrival from Chennai, Vijay received a ceremonial police salute at the airport. Senior government officials, ministers and political leaders were present to welcome him before he began his journey to the venue of the public meeting.
Roadshow draws enthusiastic crowds
The Chief Minister travelled in an open vehicle from the airport to St Joseph's College, covering a distance of around 10 kilometres.
Throughout the route, supporters lined both sides of the roads to catch a glimpse of the leader. Many waved party flags, showered flowers on his vehicle and chanted his name as the convoy passed through the city.
Seated at the front of the vehicle, Vijay repeatedly waved to the crowds, acknowledging the enthusiastic reception.
Thanksgiving visit to Tiruchirappalli
The visit was organised as a thanksgiving programme for the people of Tiruchirappalli East, the constituency from which Vijay secured victory before later resigning the seat to retain Perambur in Chennai.
The public meeting at St Joseph's College provided an opportunity for the Chief Minister to thank voters and supporters who backed him during the electoral campaign.
A city with political significance
Tiruchirappalli holds special importance in Vijay's political journey. It was from the city that he launched his statewide "I Am Coming" campaign on September 13, 2025, ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election.
The campaign marked a major milestone in his transition from cinema icon to political leader and played a key role in building momentum for his party across the state.
Given the expected turnout, police deployed extensive security measures across the city. Security personnel monitored key routes and public gathering points to ensure smooth movement during the roadshow and public meeting.
Authorities also managed traffic diversions and crowd-control arrangements along the route taken by the Chief Minister's convoy.
Supporters turn out in large numbers
The large crowds that gathered for the event reflected Vijay's continuing popularity among supporters. Many travelled from nearby districts to attend the roadshow and witness his arrival in person.
Political observers noted that the turnout demonstrated the strong grassroots support that helped propel Vijay and his party to prominence in Tamil Nadu politics.
Vijay's visit to Tiruchirappalli turned into a major public event, with thousands of supporters lining the streets to welcome the Chief Minister. The roadshow not only served as a thanksgiving gesture to voters but also highlighted the enduring connection between Vijay and a city that played a significant role in his political rise. As chants, flower showers and celebrations marked his arrival, the visit once again showcased his ability to draw large crowds and energise supporters across Tamil Nadu.
