Neyyattinkara (Kerala): Three individuals, including former MLA Eldhose Kunnappillil, have been acquitted in a rape case. The order was issued by the Neyyattinkara Court.
The action by the court follows the survivor retracting her statement during the trial before the court.
The complainant appeared in person before the court and testified that she had not been sexually assaulted by him. Following the survivor's change in statement, two witnesses in the case also retracted their statements.
The incident leading to the case occurred on September 28, 2022. The complaint was lodged by a woman residing in Pettah. The complainant had initially alleged that Eldhose Kunnappillil, who was the Perumbavoor MLA at the time, had sexually assaulted her multiple times and had also assaulted her inside a car after taking her to Kovalam.
The chargesheet filed by the District Crime Branch had also stated that there was an attempt to murder her by pushing her from the top of a hill.
