Hidden videos in Epstein files? Cyber expert finds footage concealed as PDFs

As debate intensifies over the release of unredacted records linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, a fresh controversy has emerged after internet users claimed that several files hosted on the US Department of Justice website contain concealed video footage.

Cyber researchers and online users say a number of documents listed as PDF files can be accessed as video files by altering the file extension in the URL from ".pdf" to ".mp4". The clips, which range from a few minutes to over an hour in length, largely appear to show CCTV footage from inside a federal prison facility where Epstein was held following his 2019 arrest.

The authenticity and intent behind the files remain unclear, and there has been no official confirmation from the US Department of Justice on whether the videos were deliberately embedded, mistakenly uploaded, or misidentified by users. As of the writing of this article, several of the links cited by netizens were still accessible.

The development comes amid criticism that the material released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act represents only a fraction of the evidence gathered in investigations into Epstein and his associates. Lawmakers from both major parties have argued that the disclosures, which include documents, emails, images and videos, amount to only the "tip of the iceberg".

Epstein died in a New York jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of trafficking minors. Authorities ruled his death a suicide, though the circumstances have remained the subject of public scrutiny and conspiracy theories.

The Justice Department has said it has met its legal obligations after releasing millions of pages of records, including thousands of videos and images, in multiple tranches through January 2026.

Epstein files: DoJ releases list of 305 public figures

The US Department of Justice has published a list of 305 high-profile individuals named in records linked to Jeffrey Epstein, stating the disclosure fulfils requirements under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

Among US political figures mentioned are Donald Trump, Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, JD Vance, Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Jill Biden and Steve Bannon, along with several current and former lawmakers and officials from both major parties.

International political leaders also appear in the records, including Ehud Barak, Benjamin Netanyahu, Keir Starmer, Theresa May, Tony Blair and Jens Stoltenberg, among others.

The material also references figures from the entertainment industry, including Alec Baldwin, Beyonce, Jay Z, Meghan Markle, Bruce Springsteen, George Clooney, Robert De Niro and Bono, among others. Some deceased public figures were also named because their details appeared in historical contact records.
