IACS invites applications for 2026 science programmes, deadline April 30

Kolkata: The Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) has invited applications for admission to its science programmes for the 2026 academic session.

The institute is offering admissions to three streams: the Integrated Bachelor's-Master's (BS-MS) Programme, Master's/Integrated Master's-PhD Programme, and the PhD Programme for the Autumn Semester 2026. These courses are available across multiple disciplines under its Schools of Applied and Interdisciplinary, Biological, Chemical, Materials, Mathematical and Computational, and Physical Sciences.

The five-year Integrated BS-MS Programme is designed to combine undergraduate teaching with modern research. Students will undergo foundational training in the first year, followed by specialisation from the third semester, with research exposure beginning in the seventh semester. Eligible students may receive a monthly stipend in the fourth year, subject to institute norms.

Admissions to the BS-MS programme will be based on scores from the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2026. Students who have completed or are appearing for their Class 12 examinations between 2024 and 2026 are eligible to apply, subject to meeting the minimum marks requirement. Applicants must also register separately on the IACS portal.

The programme includes multiple exit options in line with National Education Policy guidelines, allowing students to earn certificates, diplomas or degrees at different stages depending on completed credits.

For the Master's and Integrated Master's-PhD programmes, candidates who have completed or are due to complete their bachelor's degree can apply. Admissions to courses in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics will be based on IIT JAM scores, while Computer Science admissions will consider GATE scores and/or an independent screening process. Selected students may receive a monthly stipend of ₹12,000 for the first two years, subject to performance criteria.

Candidates completing the Master's programme may be considered for progression to the PhD programme with a Junior Research Fellowship, as per institute norms.

Applications are also open for the regular PhD Programme for the Autumn Semester 2026. Detailed information on eligibility, research areas and vacancies is available on the institute's official website.

The last date to apply for the BS-MS and Master's/Integrated Master's-PhD programmes is April 30, 2026. The application fee is ₹1,200, with concessions for reserved categories. Admissions under reserved categories, including EWS, will be as per government rules.

The academic session for all programmes is expected to commence on July 21, 2026.
