IISER Mohali invites applications for PhD and integrated MS-PhD programmes: Apply now

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali has invited applications for admission to the PhD Programmes and the Integrated MS-PhD Programme for the August 2026 session.

A PhD program is offered in biological sciences, chemical sciences, physical sciences, mathematical sciences, earth and environmental sciences, and humanities and social sciences for the session beginning in August 2026. Eligibility: Applicant should have good academic records and should have a master's/B.Tech/B.E./MBBS/M.Tech degree or equivalent degrees (from a recognized institute/university, with at least 55% marks or CPI 5.5 on a scale of 10); or a 4-year BSc/BS (Honours with research, with at least 75% marks or CPI 7.5 on a scale of 10). Relaxation to OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/third gender category candidates will be provided as per rules.

The applicant should be CSIR-UGC-JRF / ICMR-JRF / DBT-JRF / DST-INSPIRE (DST-INSPIRE qualified candidates with additional national-level test qualification are preferred) qualified in the relevant subject or should have other national-level fellowships or sponsored fellowships from private or state agencies.

A limited number of candidates with GATE/JEST/GPAT/ICAR-NET/CSIR-UGC Categories (2 and 3) will be eligible for fellowships either from IISER Mohali or through extramural project grants held by faculty members.

Selection will be done following the provisions of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006, and its amendments. The candidates should have valid national-level test qualifications at the time of the interview. Projected need-based seats based on the resources is 158.

Integrated MS-PhD Programme are offered in the areas of biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics for the session beginning in August 2026.

The programme involves coursework as well as research work. Successful completion of the program will lead to an MS degree and a PhD degree.

Eligibility: The applicant should have a bachelor's degree in science and related areas with a good academic record and have at least 60% aggregate or at least a CGPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10.

Those who have obtained one of (i) NBHM Masters or PhD scholarship for Mathematics (ii) Rank in JEST examination for Physics (iii) DST INSPIRE fellowship or KVPY scholarship (iv) Rank in IIT JAM for the chosen specialization (v) Rank in GATE (national- level qualifying examinations) may mention the same in their application form:
