IITRAM Ahmedabad PhD admissions 2026 open; apply by May 15

The Institute of Infrastructure, Technology, Research and Management, an autonomous university established by the Government of Gujarat, has invited applications for admission to its Ph.D. programme (Regular/Part-Time) across various departments for the academic year 2026-2027 (Autumn Semester).

The Ph.D. programme is offered in the following departments:

(i) Civil Engineering

(ii) Electrical and Computer Science Engineering (Electrical Engineering; Computer Science Engineering)

(iii) Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Mechanical Engineering; Aerospace Engineering)

(iv) Humanities and Social Sciences (English, Sociology, Economics, Psychology)

(v) Basic Sciences (Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics)

Categories of Admission

Ph.D. admissions are available under the following categories:

(a) Regular Ph.D. Programme:

(i) Sponsored Candidates: Applicants in employment; no financial assistance is provided by the Institute.

(ii) Self-financed Candidates: No financial assistance is provided; however, a Teaching Assistantship of ₹12,000 per month may be offered, subject to availability of funds and departmental requirements.

(iii) Fellowship Awardees: Candidates holding fellowships from recognised funding agencies such as CSIR, UGC, DST, DBT, ICMR, etc. These candidates are not eligible for Institute Research Assistantship.

(iv) Research Assistantship through Projects: Candidates appointed as research fellows under sanctioned projects funded by government agencies.

(b) Part-time Ph.D. Programme:

Available for (i) university/institute/college teachers, (ii) institute staff at IITRAM, and (iii) professionals working in organisations or industries with R&D facilities. Further details are provided in the 'Admission Procedure' available on the Institute website.

Eligibility Criteria

(i) Engineering/Technology: A Master's degree in a relevant field of Engineering/Technology, along with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or a B.Tech. with a high CPI.

(ii) Basic Sciences: A Master's degree in relevant Science/Engineering disciplines, along with a corresponding Bachelor's degree.

(iii) Humanities and Social Sciences: An M.A. or equivalent degree in Humanities and Social Sciences, or a Master's degree in Commerce, or an M.Sc. or equivalent in Science, or a two-year PGDM from a recognised institution (to be considered in line with the candidate's academic background).

Application Process

Applications must be submitted online via the official IITRAM website by 15 May 2026. There is no application fee.

Selection Process

Eligible candidates will be shortlisted for a written test and interview. The written test will comprise 50% Research Methodology and 50% subject-specific content, and will be conducted at IITRAM. Candidates holding individual fellowships such as UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF), SLET, or GATE may be exempted from the written test, subject to departmental recommendation.

The minimum qualifying marks in the written test for interview eligibility are 50% for the Open category and 40% for SC/ST candidates. Shortlisted candidates will also be required to deliver a brief presentation on a topic related to their research interests during the interview.

The list of shortlisted candidates for the written test and interview will be announced on 1 June 2026. The written test and/or interviews for all departments are scheduled for 30 June 2026.
