Mumbai: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at the age of 92, marking the end of an era in Indian music. She breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital due to multi-organ failure, her family confirmed.

Born into the illustrious Mangeshkar family, Asha Bhosle was part of one of India's most influential musical dynasties. She was the sister of iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar, along with Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Khadikar.

Beyond her towering career, she had a deeply personal life marked by two marriages. Her first marriage was to Ganpatrao Bhosle, with whom she had three children - Hemant, Varsha and Anand. Her son Hemant Bhosle followed in her musical footsteps as a composer, while her daughter Varsha Bhosle, a journalist, passed away in 2012. Her youngest son, Anand Bhosle, managed her professional work.

She later married legendary composer Rahul Dev Burman, forming one of the most celebrated partnerships in Bollywood music. Together, they created timeless classics such as Dum Maro Dum, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Chura Liya Hai Tumne, and Mera Kuchh Samaan.

Asha Bhosle's contribution to music spanned over eight decades, with more than a thousand songs recorded across multiple languages. She was recognised by the Guinness World Records as one of the most recorded artists in history.

Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed that the public can pay their last respects at her residence in Lower Parel, with the last rites scheduled at Shivaji Park.
