Apple's long-rumoured foldable smartphone, commonly referred to as the iPhone Fold, has surfaced in leaked CAD renders, offering a closer look at its possible design ahead of its anticipated launch later this year.
CAD renders reveal book-style foldable design
The alleged renders were shared online by tech reviewer Sonny Dickson, showing the device in both folded and unfolded states. The images suggest that Apple may adopt a book-style foldable design, similar to existing foldable smartphones in the market.
The design appears to feature flat front and rear panels along with hole-punch displays on both the outer cover screen and the inner foldable screen. The cover display reportedly includes a single centred selfie camera, while the inner display houses a front-facing camera positioned in the top-left corner.
Rear design and camera module
According to the leaked renders, the rear panel design resembles Apple's iPhone 17 Pro style, with a distinctive camera module layout.
The device is expected to feature a dual rear camera setup housed inside a horizontal pill-shaped module. The module may also include an LED flash and a secondary microphone.
The Apple logo is positioned below the camera island, appearing as a separate glass element integrated into the rear panel design.
Ports and physical buttons
The CAD renders also suggest several hardware details, including:
- USB Type-C port at the bottom
- Speaker grille next to the charging port
- Power button and volume controls on the right side
- An additional button that could function as Apple's Action Button
These features align with Apple's recent hardware design choices seen in newer iPhone models.
Expected hardware specifications
While the renders primarily reveal the external design, earlier reports have suggested that the device could be powered by the A20 Pro chipset, potentially using a wafer-level multi-chip module (WMCM) architecture for improved performance and efficiency.
However, Apple has not officially confirmed any specifications or design details.
Apple's entry into the foldable phone market
If launched, the iPhone Fold would mark Apple's first entry into the foldable smartphone segment.
The device is expected to compete with existing premium foldables, particularly Samsung's Galaxy Fold series, which currently dominates the high-end foldable smartphone market.
Apple has yet to announce an official release timeline, but industry reports suggest the foldable iPhone could debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year.
