Kerala Police, through a recent social media post, issued a detailed advisory on locations where vehicle parking is strictly prohibited.
The communique emphasised that unauthorised parking remains one of the major causes of traffic congestion across roads in the state.
The advisory acknowledged that while illegal parking inconveniences most road users, many still continue to park their vehicles irresponsibly. The police also noted that a significant section of the public lacks a proper understanding of parking rules.
List of zones where parking is prohibited
The police outlined several locations where parking is not allowed under any circumstances:
- In 'No Parking' zones or anywhere where signage clearly prohibits parking.
- On main roads or roads with heavy-speed traffic.
- On footpaths, cycle tracks, or near pedestrian crossings.
- Near bus stops, schools, hospitals, or entrances where parked vehicles could obstruct movement.
- In front of any road signs that may obstruct or cause potential hazards to other vehicles.
- Inside tunnels or on designated bus lanes.
- Near road crossings, sharp bends, hilltops, or close to bridges.
- In spaces reserved for differently abled persons' vehicles.
- In a way that obstructs entry or exit to official parking areas.
- On the wrong side of the road, or on yellow lines/yellow boxes painted along the roadside, or near 'No Parking' or 'No Stopping' signage.
- If it obstructs other vehicles or causes inconvenience to others, including double parking beside already parked vehicles. On narrow roads or areas where visibility is compromised.
- On private property without the owner's consent.
- Beyond the permitted time limit in time-restricted parking zones.
- In spaces designated for specific vehicle types, where the parked vehicle does not belong to the allowed category.
