Jeep plunges into gorge in Idukki; woman and six-month-old baby among two dead

Idukki: Two people, including a woman and a six-month-old baby, died in a tragic accident after a jeep fell into a gorge at Narakakkanam.

The deceased have been identified as Saramma, a native of Mannathoor in Koothattukulam, Ernakulam, and a six-month-old infant.

The vehicle was carrying a group of people who had attended a wedding ceremony. The accident occurred while they were returning from the event after also visiting a nearby viewpoint.

According to reports, the jeep lost control and plunged nearly 200 feet into the gorge. Around 12 passengers were onboard at the time of the incident.

Three people are reported to be in critical condition, while several others sustained injuries. Local residents rushed the injured to Idukki Medical College Hospital. Those with serious injuries are being shifted to a hospital in Pala for further treatment.
