Kozhikode: New details have come out in the case of stone-pelting on a train in which a student was seriously injured. The accused, Krishnakumar (30), a native of Kadalundi, Kozhikode was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
According to the Railway Police Inspector Sudhir Manohar, the accused stated during questioning that he threw stones at the train to relieve his frustration after his favourite IPL team lost a match.
He reportedly told the police that he is a strong fan of MS Dhoni and became upset after Chennai Super Kings lost the IPL match. In frustration, he left home after an argument and went near the railway tracks, where he picked up stones and threw them at passing trains.
Police also revealed that Krishnakumar had purchased a second-hand Android mobile phone for Rs 3,000 about three months ago. He used the device to watch IPL matches.
He had previously served a 10-month jail term in a case related to cultivating a cannabis plant at his home. Officials also suspect that he was under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the incident.
Details of the train attack and victim's injury
The stone-pelting incident took place on the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express on 30 March.
During the journey from a hostel in Aluva to her home in Puthiyeri, Kozhikode, 22-year-old Aiswarya was injured in the attack. The incident occurred between Feroke and Kadalundi.
She suffered severe injuries to her jaw. Two teeth on the left side were knocked out and she also sustained injuries to her lips.
Despite detailed investigations by the Railway Protection Force and railway police, the accused could not be traced initially.
Following this, the investigation team visited houses in the area and collected information. It was during this process that police received a tip-off from neighbours about Krishnakumar, who was also known to throw stones at nearby houses and mango trees.
Based on this information, the police detained him on Monday evening. He later confessed to the incident during interrogation.
