The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday carried out searches across five districts in Kerala as part of its probe into the large-scale explosives seizure case reported in Malappuram earlier this year.
The raids were conducted in Malappuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. During a search in Kasaragod, investigators recovered gelatin sticks from the residence of a man identified as George, a native of Kadumeni.
The case dates back to February when a truck allegedly transporting explosives was intercepted and a huge quantity of explosive materials was seized. The explosives had reportedly been concealed inside sacks of onions. Following the seizure, the accused in the case were arrested. The suspects were residents of Mukkam in Kozhikode district.
According to officials, the latest NIA searches are focused on locations linked to the accused and their associates. Raids are also underway in Wandoor, where the family home of one of the accused's wife is located.
Initially, investigators believed the explosives were intended for use at a quarry. However, the NIA has expanded its investigation and is examining whether larger quantities of explosives were transported and if there were any wider links connected to the case.
Searches were also conducted at the residence of Harris, a Mukkam native who is among the accused, and at his firm. Investigators are looking for evidence related to the alleged transportation and storage of explosives. The agency believes the searches could yield crucial information as the probe progresses.
