More than 20 injured as train derails in Russia's Ulyanovsk

Moscow: At least 22 people were injured and no deaths reported after a passenger train derailed early Friday in Russia's Ulyanovsk region, authorities confirmed.

The accident occurred when seven carriages of a train operating on the busy Chelyabinsk-Moscow route, roughly 900 km east of Moscow, and tipped onto their sides.

The train was carrying over 400 passengers at the time. Chelyabinsk Governor Alexei Teksler reported that among the injured, two suffered fractures while others, including a child, sustained bruises and minor injuries.

Images and footage circulating from the derailment site showed several carriages on their side and passengers climbing out through windows as rescuers worked to clear the wreckage.

The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a probe into possible violations of railway safety and operational standards, sending investigators to the scene to determine what went wrong.

All passengers aboard the train were evacuated safely. Regional services set up transfer points and medical support for those affected.
