Kozhikode: Two children who were left stranded during a train journey were safely reunited with their mother thanks to the timely intervention of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer.
RPF Intelligence Head Constable VK Vineesh found the two boys, aged 12 and 5, during a routine inspection on the train while on duty. The search was initiated based on information from Childline authorities about missing children during the journey. The incident occurred at 10:35 am on Friday at Kozhikode railway station on the Thrissur-Kannur passenger train. The children are the sons of a woman from Kadirur in Kannur.
The mother was travelling from Pattambi to Thalassery with her three children. When the train reached Kozhikode station, she and one child got down to buy drinking water. Before they could return, the train had already departed.
As a result, the two children were left alone in the compartment. Acting on the information, the RPF officer located them when the train reached Elathur railway station. One of the children had a mobile phone, and the RPF officials contacted the mother through it.
The children were deboarded at Elathur and later brought back to Kozhikode railway station on the Mangaluru-Chennai Egmore train. They were then handed over safely to their mother in the presence of RPF officials. Although the Egmore train does not usually stop at Elathur, the railway station manager intervened after being informed by Vineesh about the situation.
