A Punjabi-origin YouTuber based in Canada, Nancy Grewal, has been fatally stabbed in the town of LaSalle in Ontario, sending shockwaves through the local community and across social media circles where she was known for her outspoken commentary.
According to the LaSalle Police Service, officers and paramedics were called to a residence in the 2400 block of Todd Lane late Tuesday night following reports of a stabbing. When emergency responders reached the scene shortly before 9.30 pm, they found the 45-year-old suffering from multiple severe stab wounds.
Grewal was rushed to hospital by Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services, but she later died from her injuries. Authorities have since confirmed the case as a homicide, though investigators have not yet announced any arrests or identified a suspect.
Police say they are currently treating the killing as an isolated incident, and there is no immediate indication of a broader threat to public safety. Investigators have cordoned off multiple locations around Todd Lane while gathering evidence related to the attack.
The investigation extended beyond the home where Grewal was found. Officers sealed off two nearby houses and marked several pieces of evidence along a walkway and near the front entrance of one property. A wooded area roughly one kilometre away, near Herb Gray Parkway walking trails, was also searched as police looked for additional clues that might help reconstruct what happened.
Originally from Ludhiana in Punjab, Grewal had previously lived in Calgary before moving to the Windsor-LaSalle region. She had developed a presence on social media through videos and commentary discussing political and religious developments related to Punjab and the Indian diaspora.
Her posts often drew attention for their blunt tone. Grewal frequently spoke about India-Canada diplomatic tensions and had openly criticised Khalistani separatist supporters, Canadian political leaders, and some religious figures in Punjab.
The fatal stabbing comes just weeks after the Windsor region recorded its first homicide of 2026, when a 44-year-old man with a gunshot wound was discovered in the parking lot of Windsor Regional Hospital's Metropolitan campus. That case also had links to LaSalle and led to a suspect being arrested on the same day.
Police are urging residents in the neighbourhood to review doorbell cameras, dashcams, or surveillance footage that could assist in identifying what happened before or after the attack. Anyone with information has been asked to contact investigators as the homicide probe continues.
