New Delhi: The National School of Drama (NSD) has invited applications for its Joint Entrance Examination for admission to diploma and certificate programmes at its centres across India for the 2026 academic session.

The institute, headquartered in New Delhi, is offering a three-year full-time residential diploma in Dramatics, aimed at training students in acting, design, direction and other theatre-related disciplines. In addition, one-year full-time certificate courses are available in specialised fields including Dramatic Art, Acting, Indian Classical Theatre and Theatre-in-Education.

Courses and Centres

The diploma programme will be conducted in New Delhi, while certificate courses will be offered at multiple centres:

  • Dramatic Art in Gangtok
  • Acting in Bengaluru
  • Indian Classical Theatre in Varanasi
  • Theatre-in-Education in Agartala

Seats and Eligibility

A total of 32 seats are available for the diploma course, including up to three seats for foreign nationals. Each certificate course offers 20 seats, with reservations applicable as per Government of India norms.

Applicants must hold a graduation degree from a recognised university. Candidates applying for the diploma course should have participated in at least six theatre productions, while those applying for certificate courses must have experience in at least four plays, supported by relevant documents.

Age Limit and Selection Process

Candidates must be aged between 18 and 30 years as of 1 July 2026, with relaxations for reserved categories.

Selection will be conducted through a two-stage process, beginning with a preliminary examination or audition in May and June 2026 across 18 centres. Shortlisted candidates will then attend a five-day workshop in New Delhi from 15 to 19 June for final selection.

Financial Support and Course Details

Students admitted to the diploma programme will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 9,500, while those enrolled in certificate courses will receive Rs 6,000 per month.

The diploma course spans six semesters over three years, with specialisation in Acting or Design and Direction offered in the later stages.

Application Details

Applications must be submitted online by 17 April 2026, along with a fee of Rs 50. Study material and guidelines for the entrance process will be available from the same date on the official NSD website.

Selected candidates will be required to undergo a medical fitness test before joining. The academic session is scheduled to commence on 15 July 2026.
