With the NEET UG 2026 examination set to take place on 3 May, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a detailed advisory outlining dress code requirements and permitted items for candidates, aiming to ensure a smooth and trouble-free experience at examination centres.
In a public notice issued on 30 April, the NTA emphasised the importance of adhering strictly to the prescribed guidelines to avoid delays or complications on the day of the exam.
According to the advisory, candidates are allowed to carry only transparent water bottles into the examination hall. The agency also clarified that items worn for religious or cultural reasons are permitted; however, candidates choosing to wear such articles must report to their centres well in advance to allow sufficient time for additional security checks.
On attire, the NTA stated that light clothing is recommended, though candidates may wear full-sleeved garments or woollens if necessary. Those opting for such clothing are advised to arrive early, as extra time may be required during frisking procedures.
Footwear guidelines have also been specified, with slippers and low-heeled sandals strongly recommended to facilitate quicker security clearance.
The agency reiterated that full cooperation with examination staff is essential. Candidates are encouraged to reach their designated centres early, particularly if their attire or personal items may require additional screening.
These measures, the NTA noted, are intended to maintain fairness and security while minimising last-minute inconvenience for candidates on exam day.</
