Kozhikode: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged a collusion between the BJP and the LDF in Kerala, questioning why central agencies have not taken action against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, unlike opposition leaders elsewhere in the country.
Speaking online at a public event via video at Kozhikode Beach, Rahul Gandhi asserted that the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections essentially feature a contest between the UDF and the BJP-LDF partnership, claiming the policies of the Left Democratic Front are indistinguishable from those of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
"Both parties also do not believe they are answerable to the people of Kerala," he said.
Rahul Gandhi raised concerns over the inaction of central investigative agencies against the Kerala Chief Minister, noting that opposition leaders across India who challenge the BJP face scrutiny and legal cases.
"Why are corruption cases against the CM not going anywhere? This is the best proof of collusion between the BJP and LDF," he alleged.
He further criticised the LDF government, claiming it has prioritised control over law and order and drug-related issues rather than making Kerala a leader in employment, technology, or development.
Rahul Gandhi also shared a personal note about his mother's hospitalisation, highlighting the dedication of healthcare workers from Kerala.
"I would have liked to come here, but I was forced to stay in today and was unable to come. Yesterday, my mother was hospitalised, and I, as a son, was quite worried about her and so decided to stay with her. I know that the people of Kerala will understand this. Last night, I was sleeping in my mother's room, in the hospital room, on a little sofa and like any son, I was extremely worried about my mother's health. The whole night, I was only comforted by one thing. I was comforted by a nurse from Kerala who came in every hour to check on my mother. Every single hour, she would come, she would check my mother, she would smile, she would hold my mother's hand, and I was thinking to myself, how many sons, daughters, brothers, sisters have nurses from Kerala comforted in their difficult moments? Early morning, I asked her do you sleep at night or do you work the whole night? And she said, no, I do not sleep at night. I work all night. While the whole world sleeps, women from Kerala, not only in Kerala but in Delhi, in the rest of the country, in the rest of the world, are comforting people, holding people's hands and making them comfortable," he said.
Rahul Gandhi's remarks underscore both the dedication of Kerala's healthcare professionals and the political stakes in the upcoming Assembly elections, scheduled for April 9, 2026, with the UDF and LDF vying for control of the 140-member assembly. PTI
