Pakistan train derailment: 25 injured after Tezgam Express accident

Karachi: A passenger train derailment in Punjab left at least 25 people injured after multiple coaches went off the tracks late Tuesday night.

The incident took place near Lodhran, around 400 km from Lahore, when the Karachi-bound Tezgam Express derailed near Adam Wahan railway station. Officials confirmed that seven coaches derailed, injuring around 25 passengers. One person is reported to be seriously injured, but no deaths have been confirmed.

What caused the derailment?

According to Hanif Abbasi, the accident may have been caused by a combination of human error and mechanical issues. Railway officials also indicated that couplers between the bogies may have broken, causing part of the train to detach and derail.

Emergency teams, including Rescue 1122, carried out rescue operations, evacuating passengers and shifting the injured to nearby hospitals.

Rail traffic on the affected track has been temporarily suspended as authorities begin investigation and restoration work.

While no fatalities have been reported, the derailment has raised concerns over railway safety and infrastructure, with investigations underway to determine the exact cause.
