The spy action sequel 'Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge' has rewritten box office history, overtaking 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion' to emerge as the second-highest-grossing Indian film globally.
The milestone was achieved on its extended theatrical run, around its 40th day, with the film crossing the Rs 1,800 crore mark in worldwide gross collections, according to Sacnilk.
The feat is considered particularly notable given that the Ranveer Singh-led film did not release in key international markets such as China and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, regions that significantly boosted the global earnings of 'Baahubali 2' during its run. The SS Rajamouli-directed epic had held the No 2 position for nearly nine years.
Sixth weekend surge drives milestone
After witnessing a brief slowdown during weekdays, 'Dhurandhar 2' regained momentum with a strong sixth weekend performance. The film recorded an estimated Rs 3.40 crore net in India on its sixth Sunday, marking a healthy rise from the previous day's earnings.
Across the sixth weekend, the film collected roughly Rs 8 crore net domestically, pushing its India net total to around Rs 1,167.63 crore. The corresponding gross in India stands at approximately Rs 1,377.8 crore.
Internationally, the film added modest daily earnings but maintained a strong cumulative performance, with overseas collections reaching about Rs 424.25 crore. Combined, the global tally surged to nearly Rs 1,801.80 crore, just enough to surpass 'Baahubali 2's lifetime worldwide gross of Rs 1,800 crore.
Still trailing 'Dangal' at the top
Despite its record-breaking run, 'Dhurandhar 2' remains behind 'Dangal', which continues to hold the spot as the highest-grossing Indian film worldwide with an estimated Rs 2,059 crore.
Trade estimates suggest that 'Dhurandhar 2' would need an additional Rs 257 crore-plus to challenge that benchmark, a target widely viewed as out of reach given its current stage in the theatrical cycle.
Domestic dominance and franchise success
Earlier in April, the film had already surpassed 'Baahubali 2' in India to become the highest-grossing Indian film domestically in net terms, crossing Rs 1,167 crore.
The success has also elevated the 'Dhurandhar' franchise to new heights. With the first instalment earning approximately Rs 1,354.84 crore and the sequel now exceeding Rs 1,800 crore globally, the combined franchise total stands at around Rs 3,156.64 crore. This places it ahead of major Indian film franchises, including the 'Baahubali' series and the YRF Spy Universe.

About 'Dhurandhar 2'
The sequel picks up from the events of the original 'Dhurandhar', following protagonist Jaskirat Singh Rangi as he deepens his undercover mission. Operating under the alias Hamza, he rises within a criminal network in Karachi, navigating a dangerous web of organised crime and terrorism. The narrative blends high-octane action with emotional conflict as the character grapples with the personal cost of his covert life.
