Stray dog boards moving train in Kerala, sits calmly in ladies' coach, leaves passengers on toes

A stray dog entering a moving passenger train in Alappuzha has raised fresh concerns over passenger safety. The incident, involving a women-only compartment, triggered alarm among travellers on Thursday night.

The Ernakulam-Kayamkulam passenger train, which departs Ernakulam at 6 pm, reached Mararikulam railway station at around 7.30 pm. It was here that the stray dog entered the ladies' compartment.

The presence of the animal inside a coach reserved exclusively for women caused immediate panic. Though the dog remained calm and sat quietly throughout, passengers were left uneasy, unsure how it might behave.

Several travellers reported feeling anxious during the journey, citing the risk of sudden or unpredictable movement.

Repeated sightings heighten unease

Stray dogs are a common sight on railway platforms, but their movement into train compartments has begun to draw concern. While such instances are not routine, passengers say they directly affect safety onboard.

Many noted that dogs on platforms generally do not disturb people. However, uncertainty over their behaviour remains a concern, particularly in confined spaces such as train coaches.

Earlier incidents reported on station premises

Dog-related incidents have previously been reported within railway premises. In one such case at Alappuzha railway station, a foreign woman was among those bitten by a stray dog.

With such incidents already recorded, the recurrence of similar situations - including animals entering train compartments - has intensified concerns over passenger safety during travel.
