Sydney Sweeney's cameo axed from 'The Devil Wears Prada 2': Here's why

Actor Sydney Sweeney will not appear in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' despite having filmed a scene for the highly anticipated sequel, according to reports.

The decision to remove her cameo was made during post-production, with filmmakers opting to leave the sequence out of the final version.

The sequel, which reunites key cast members from the original 2006 hit, has undergone several edits following test screenings, leading to the removal of multiple scenes, including Sweeney's brief appearance.

Cameo shot but removed In final edit

According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, the 28-year-old filmed a short scene in which she appeared as herself. The sequence reportedly featured her being styled by Emily Blunt's character, Emily Charlton, who is now depicted as a senior executive overseeing Dior's US operations.

The scene, set around preparations for a high-profile gala, was intended to reintroduce Emily's character in the sequel's early moments. However, the sequence was ultimately cut and does not appear in the final film.

Another deleted cameo reportedly involved Conrad Ricamora, who had been cast as Andy's roommate.

Test screenings influenced changes

According to reports, the removal of these scenes followed feedback from test audiences. Viewers questioned certain narrative choices, including the presence of a roommate for Andy Sachs at this stage in her life.

In the sequel, Andy, originally introduced as a fashion intern, has progressed to a senior executive role nearly two decades later. The storyline has instead been adjusted to focus more on her interactions with the character played by Tracie Thoms, rather than introducing a roommate dynamic.

Insiders also suggested that Sweeney's cameo, which ran for a few minutes, did not fit smoothly into the film's opening structure and was removed to maintain narrative flow.

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna appeared to confirm the change when asked about Sweeney's involvement, stating, "You saw the movie. She's not in the movie."

The remark effectively put an end to speculation that had been building since reports of her appearance first surfaced.

Star-studded cameos still remain

Despite the cuts, the sequel continues to feature several high-profile appearances. Lady Gaga is part of the film and has also contributed a track to its soundtrack.

Fashion designer Donatella Versace filmed a cameo in Milan, while supermodel Naomi Campbell appears in a sequence shot during Milan Fashion Week.
