Chennai: Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay has found himself at the centre of intense social media speculation after reports emerged that his wife, Sankgeetha Sornalingam, has filed for divorce.
According to reports circulating online, Sankgeetha has cited an alleged "extramarital relationship with an actress" as grounds for separation. The petition, reportedly filed in the Chengalpattu Family Court, does not name any individual.
However, the absence of a name has not stopped online speculation, with actress Trisha Krishnan trending across platforms.
Social media connects the dots
Soon after news of the divorce filing surfaced, old photographs of Vijay and Trisha began circulating widely. One such image, reportedly taken during a trip to Norway, shows the two actors together in a public space.
Though the photograph is not recent, it has reignited discussions about their equation off-screen.
Trisha's past social media posts from her European travels have also been revisited by fans, further fuelling conjecture. However, there is no official confirmation linking these posts to the current developments.
A long professional association
Vijay and Trisha share a long-standing professional history. The duo first appeared together in Ghilli (2004), which became a blockbuster and cemented their popularity as an on-screen pair. They went on to star in Thirupaachi, Aathi, and later reunited after a long gap for Leo.
Over the years, their on-screen chemistry has often been praised by fans, making them one of Tamil cinema's most-loved pairs. Both actors, however, have consistently maintained that they are good friends and professional collaborators.
No official statement yet
Vijay and Sankgeetha, who married in August 1999, have two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha. As of now, neither Vijay nor Sankgeetha has issued a formal public statement regarding the reported divorce proceedings. Trisha has also not responded to the online speculation.
It is important to note that while the divorce petition reportedly refers to an "extramarital relationship with an actress," no individual has been officially named. The current discourse remains largely driven by social media reactions rather than verified statements.
With Vijay also preparing for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections after launching his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in 2024, the developments have drawn significant public attention.
For now, the matter appears to be unfolding both in legal proceedings and in the court of public opinion, as fans await clarity from those directl
