Trisha Krishnan's Chennai home gets bomb threat, triggers major police search

Chennai: Security agencies carried out an extensive search at the residence of Tamil actress Trisha Krishnan after an email warning of a bomb being planted at her home was received by police authorities.

The message, received by the Director General of Police Control Room at around 9.30 am, claimed that an explosive device had been placed at the actress's residence and could go off at any moment. Acting on this information, the DGP office informed the Teynampet police station without delay.

Police teams quickly reached the location, accompanied by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and sniffer dogs, and secured the premises before beginning a detailed inspection.

Extensive search declared clear

Officials carried out a room-by-room check of the house, with the operation continuing for several hours. By midday, officials confirmed that no suspicious objects or explosives had been detected.

Following the search, police stated that the threat was false and categorised it as a hoax.

Repeat incidents raise concern

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Earlier this year, a similar threat targeting the actress's residence had prompted a police response. In October 2025, another hoax call had also been reported, making this the second such instance within a six-month period.

The episode is part of a recent pattern of hoax threats reported in Chennai. Just two days before this incident, similar emails were sent targeting the homes of actors Rajinikanth and Dhanush in Poes Garden.

Police had spent over five hours searching those properties before confirming that there was no danger.

Authorities also indicated that key locations such as Raj Bhavan, the Chief Minister's Office, and the BJP state headquarters have recently received similar false alerts.

The Cyber Crime Wing of the Chennai Police has initiated a high-priority probe to identify the source of the threatening email. Officials noted that such messages are often sent using Virtual Private Networks and encrypted email platforms to hide the sender's identity.

Efforts are currently under way to trace the IP addresses involved, with investigators coordinating with service providers.

A formal case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to criminal intimidation and providing false information to a public servant.

On the work front, Trisha has completed filming for Chiranjeevi's 'Vishwambhara', which is expected to release soon. She is also part of Suriya's 'Karuppu' and will feature in the second instalment of her investigative thriller series 'Brinda 2', set to stream on Sony LIV.
