OpenAI has introduced a new end-of-year feature called 'Your Year with ChatGPT', giving users a personalised overview of how they used the AI chatbot throughout the year.
The experience mirrors the popular annual recaps seen across digital platforms, presenting user activity in a visually engaging, narrative-driven format.
The company announced the feature through a post on X (formerly Twitter), confirming its availability in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Users must update to the latest version of the ChatGPT app.
"Your Year with ChatGPT! Now rolling out to everyone in the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia who have reference saved memory and reference chat history turned on. Just make sure your app is updated", the company wrote.
Eligible users will see a 'Your Year with ChatGPT' banner on the app's home screen once the feature is activated. Opening it launches a Stories-style recap that walks users through highlights from the past year.
These include usage patterns, frequently discussed topics and light-hearted titles assigned based on how the chatbot was used, such as recognising users who regularly turned to ChatGPT for creative thinking or problem-solving.
Beyond usage insights, the recap also produces a short poem and an AI-generated image inspired by themes that appeared most often in a user's chats. OpenAI says the design makes the recap easy to share, allowing users to post their personalised highlights across social media platforms.
However, the feature comes with some restrictions. 'Your Year with ChatGPT' is limited to individual accounts and is not supported for Education, Enterprise or Team subscriptions.
OpenAI adds that users who do not see the banner immediately can still try requesting their annual recap directly within ChatGPT.
The launch reflects OpenAI's ongoing efforts to make ChatGPT feel more personal, while also tapping into the growing appeal of yearly digital summaries. For users in supported regions, the feature offers a reflective and playful look at how AI became part of their everyday routines over the past year.
