US-Iran war escalates: Airstrikes kill 3 as Trump issues 48-hour Hormuz warning

Tehran: Airstrikes in southwest Iran have killed at least three people and injured several others, according to Iranian state media, escalating already high tensions in the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

The strike reportedly hit an area where a missing American crew member is believed to be, adding a new layer of urgency to the situation.

The latest development comes amid a sharp exchange of threats between Iran and the United States over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.

Senior Iranian military official Gen Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, commander of the joint military command, issued a strong warning, saying Iran will target all infrastructure used by the US military in the region, as well as Israeli infrastructure, if attacks continue.

Responding to US warnings, he said, "The doors of hell will be opened to you" if Iran's infrastructure is targeted.

His remarks were broadcast on Iranian state media just hours after US President Donald Trump escalated rhetoric against Tehran.

Trump issues 48-hour warning over Strait of Hormuz

In a social media post, Trump warned Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face severe consequences.

"Time is running out - 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them," Trump said, reiterating an earlier April 6 deadline for restoring access to the crucial shipping channel.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital artery for global oil supply, and any disruption has immediate effects on fuel prices, global markets, and international trade.

The current conflict began with joint US-Israel strikes on February 28, triggering a wave of retaliatory attacks. Since then, thousands have reportedly been killed, both sides have targeted civilian areas and fuel prices have surged, shaking the global markets.

Key shipping routes have also been disrupted.

An Iranian official stated that the war has already claimed the lives of 5 university professors and 60 students.

With both sides issuing direct threats and intensifying military actions, fears of a wider regional war are growing. The situation around the Strait of Hormuz remains particularly volatile, given its importance to global energy security.
