Vaibhav Sooryavanshi becomes fastest player to 1,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced

Rajasthan Royals teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his remarkable IPL season by becoming the fastest player to complete 1,000 career runs in the tournament in terms of balls faced.

The 15-year-old reached the milestone in just 440 deliveries during Rajasthan Royals' knockout clash, surpassing the previous record held by West Indies power-hitter Andre Russell, who had taken 545 balls to achieve the feat.

Sooryavanshi produced another explosive innings under pressure, scoring 86 off 47 balls with eight fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 204.26.

The left-hander has now amassed 776 runs in 16 matches this season at an average of 48.50 and an extraordinary strike rate of 237.30. His tally includes one century and five half-centuries, with a highest score of 103.

The youngster's campaign is already among the most prolific in IPL history, ranking as the fifth-highest run-scoring season overall behind Virat Kohli's 973-run season in 2016, Shubman Gill's 890 runs in 2023, Jos Buttler's 863 runs in 2022 and David Warner's 848 runs in 2016.

Across 23 IPL innings, Sooryavanshi has scored 1,028 runs at an average of 44.69 and a strike rate of 228.95, including two centuries and six fifties.

In terms of innings taken to reach the milestone, he is the second-fastest player after former Australia opener Shaun Marsh, who achieved 1,000 IPL runs in 21 innings.

Sooryavanshi has also become the first batter in IPL history to score more than 500 runs in a single season during the powerplay overs alone. He has accumulated 521 powerplay runs at a strike rate of 233.33.

In the match, Rajasthan Royals elected to bat first after winning the toss but suffered an early collapse to 9/2, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel cheaply.

Sooryavanshi then steadied the innings alongside Ravindra Jadeja, who made 45 off 35 balls before retiring hurt. The pair shared a 92-run partnership before Rajasthan slipped again to 118/5.

The teenager continued his aggressive approach and later combined with Donovan Ferreira, whose unbeaten 38 from just 11 balls helped Rajasthan Royals post 214/6 in 20 overs.

Kagiso Rabada was the standout bowler for Gujarat Titans with figures of 2/35, while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna claimed one wicket each.
