Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) general secretary Aadhav Arjuna has claimed that party leader Vijay was offered the post of Chief Minister along with a 50 per cent share of Assembly seats by another political party during discussions ahead of the upcoming election.

Arjuna said the fledgling party was offered a 50:50 seat-sharing arrangement, including the chief ministership for two-and-a-half years, but Vijay turned down the proposal. He did not name the party that made the offer.

TVK is set to make its electoral debut in the upcoming Assembly election scheduled for 23 April. Arjuna made the remarks while addressing a party meeting in Kolathur on Tuesday night.

His comments come amid ongoing political speculation over potential alliances. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has publicly stated that his party was not engaged in talks with TVK, while BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran has echoed that position. However, there has been widespread speculation that representatives linked to the BJP had explored the possibility of a poll alliance with TVK to challenge the ruling DMK.

Arjuna said Vijay was not someone who would accept offers made from Delhi in exchange for the Chief Minister's post. He added that multiple proposals had been presented, ranging from 50 to 90 seats, but emphasised that Vijay's priority was earning the trust of the people of Tamil Nadu rather than securing office.

He further stated that TVK would contest all 234 constituencies and aim to form a secular, social justice-based government, adding that this message was intended to reach Christian and Muslim communities as well.
