Kochi: Lulu Group has begun exporting large volumes of fresh fruits and vegetables from Kochi to meet Vishu demand across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, transporting around 3,200 tonnes of produce for its retail network.
The shipments, organised through Lulu Group's export arm Fair Exports, include a wide range of seasonal and festival-related items such as kani konna flowers (Indian laburnum), cucumber, banana leaves, coconuts, and other vegetables required for traditional Vishu sadya preparations. The produce is sourced directly from agricultural regions across Kerala.
According to the company, over 100 tonnes of fruits and vegetables have already been flown from Kochi to Abu Dhabi on a dedicated Boeing 747 freighter operated by a national carrier. A further 100 tonnes is scheduled for dispatch on Friday. Additional consignments, including 50 tonnes destined for Kuwait, are also being shipped from Kochi as part of the ongoing logistics operation.
More flights are planned in the coming days to ensure a continuous supply across Lulu stores in GCC markets during the Vishu season.
Lulu Group chairman M A Yusuffali had earlier said that the company is committed to ensuring adequate availability and price stability of festival goods during Vishu, assuring consumers that there is no cause for concern over supply.
