Washington: The White House's launch of a new mobile application promising real-time updates "straight from the source, no filter" has triggered a wave of memes, scepticism and criticism across social media platforms.

Announced on Friday, the app aims to offer livestreams and direct communication from the administration. "Live streams. Real-time updates. Straight from the source, no filter. The conversation everyone's watching is now at your fingertips," the White House said, while promoting the launch with a video on X.

However, the rollout was quickly met with sharp reactions online, with many users mocking the initiative and questioning its purpose. Comments such as "No thank you" and "not interested in app" flooded social media, reflecting widespread disinterest among sections of users.

Others raised privacy concerns, questioning whether the platform could be used for surveillance. One user wrote, "I went to the App Store and typed in 'White House app'. It was number 20 on the list of suggested apps." Another joked, "Amazon is giving a gift card for my data, what are you giving for it?"

The criticism comes at a time when cybersecurity and data privacy are under heightened scrutiny, particularly after Iran-linked hackers recently claimed a breach of FBI Director Kash Patel's personal inbox. The alleged leak, which included emails, photographs and a purported resume, has added to concerns about vulnerabilities in high-level digital systems amid escalating geopolitical tensions.
