Alappuzha (Kerala): A case has been registered in Kayamkulam after a 25-year-old woman alleged she was sexually harassed while being transported to the hospital following a road accident, police said.
The accused, identified as Sinil Sabad, a local trader, has been booked based on the woman's complaint. The incident has raised concerns over victim safety and alleged lapses in police investigation.
Kerala accident case: Harassment alleged during emergency rescue
According to police, the accident occurred around 12.45 am on April 4 at KPAC Junction, when the vehicle carrying the woman and her family hit a road median while returning from a pilgrimage.
Locals, including the accused, gathered at the scene and helped shift the injured to a nearby hospital.
The complainant alleged that during this process, the accused made sexual advances and inappropriately touched her while she was being taken for medical treatment.
Police case registered, investigation under scrutiny
After reaching a private hospital, the woman informed doctors about the alleged harassment, following which police were alerted and a case was registered.
However, the victim has since alleged lapses in the investigation, claiming her detailed statement has not been properly recorded and that no medical examination has been conducted so far.
She also stated that the accused was questioned and subsequently released.

Kerala Police probe and internal inquiry ordered
An officer at the Kayamkulam police station said the investigation is ongoing, with statements of witnesses currently being recorded before further action, including possible arrest.
Meanwhile, Ravada A Chandrasekhar, the Kerala State Police Chief, has sought a detailed report from the Alappuzha district police regarding the incident.
Police sources confirmed that an internal inquiry has been initiated to examine possible procedural lapses, with a report expected to be submitted within two days.
The case has sparked public concern over safety during emergency response situations and the handling of sexual harassment complaints in Kerala.
