Pathanamthitta: A YouTuber known for posting videos on Sabarimala has landed in trouble after uploading footage allegedly filmed after the temple had been closed.
A case has been registered against him by the Pamba police.
The video, reportedly shot during a restricted period when access beyond Pamba is limited to authorised personnel, shows the YouTuber travelling up to areas near the Sannidhanam. After learning that a case had been filed, he removed the video; however, the police investigation is ongoing.
Why is the case sensitive?
The 10-minute video, titled 'Sabarimala sights after temple closure', was uploaded on 24 April. It features visuals of a deserted Sabarimala at a time when the temple premises are considered a high-security zone. The footage begins at the Pamba Ganapathi Temple and captures the otherwise restricted stretch leading up the hill.
The YouTuber appears to have ascended via the traditional trekking route, passing through Neelimala while allegedly bypassing a police checkpoint. The video shows him reaching Sannidhanam through Neelimala Bottom, Neelimala Top, Appachimedu, Sabarimala Peetham, Marakootam, Chandranandan Road and Valiyanadappanthal, while providing commentary throughout the journey.
He reportedly filmed up to the area just below the 18 sacred steps. The video concludes with shots of the deserted steps and the flag mast area above.

Following the incident, the Special Commissioner appointed by the High Court at Sabarimala, R. Jayakrishnan, sought a report from the Pamba police and the Forest Department. Based on this, a case was registered, though the accused has not yet been apprehended, according to the FIR.
The temple was closed on 18 April after the Vishu festival. It is believed that the video was recorded after this date. As per protocol, all devotees are required to descend the hill on the night of closure, although in some cases a small number may leave the following morning.
Police are investigating how the individual managed to access and film in the restricted area. CCTV footage is being examined, and officials are also considering adding charges related to trespassing in a high-security zone.
