Last month, Hollywood horror movie Obsession which was made on just $750K budget created history by witnessing growth in its second and third weekend as compared to previous weekends.
The movie has so far made $148 million in 17 days and is now heading towards $200-250 million biz at the worldwide box office.
The unprecedented success of Obsession led to decline in the biz of the new Star Wars movieThe Mandalorian & Grogu which was made on $165 million budget & so far has only made $246 million, globally.
After losing the box office battle to Obsession, The Mandalorian & Grogu saw further decline in the biz when new horror movie Backrooms released on May 29.

The movie is made on $10 million budget and collected a record-breaking $81 million in the US, higher than the entire run of Mortal Kombat II.
At the worldwide box office, the movie has made $118 million in its opening weekend.

This makes Backrooms the biggest opener ever for A24 in the US as well as worldwide.
It is also on course to be the biggest grosser for the production house beating Marty Supreme's $191 million global haul.
YouTubers Rule Hollywood Beating Star Wars Franchise
What's common between Obsession and Backrooms besides both being horror movies made on extremely low budgets is the fact that their directors are 20-something YouTubers.
Obsession is helmed by Curry Barker who is a 26-year-old filmmaker and former YouTuber while Backrooms is directed by Kane Parsons who is a 20-year-old YouTuber.

In comparison, The Mandalorian & Grogu director Jon Favreau is a seasoned filmmaker known for helming blockbusters like Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and The Lion King (2019) among others.
There are high chances that Backrooms will end up making more money than The Mandalorian & Grogu at the worldwide box office.
Obsession on the other hand will come close to the Star Wars movie's final box office.
