Alia & Alpha's Real Mission Is To Rescue Spy Universe After War 2 Flop, Dhurandhar Onslaught

After the release of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan in 2023 that broke the box office and made over Rs 1000 crore at the worldwide box office.

At that time, YRF Spy Universe seemed invincible with three blockbusters (Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War) and an all time blockbuster (Pathaan).

Can Alia Bhatt's Alpha Rescue & Resurrect Spy Universe?

The cinematic universe, however, saw first cracks with the underperformance of Tiger 3 in the same year. And then two years later in 2025, War 2 became a big box office bomb.

The critical and commercial failure of War 2 meant big trouble for Alia Bhatt starrer Alpha which was slated for the Christmas 2025 release.

The movie was soon pushed to 2026 and in between, the release of Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge breaking almost all box office records meant YRF Spy Universe was almost dead.

However, Alpha is now finally releasing in theatres and surprisingly, its teaser as well as trailer has been received better than many expected.

Now, Alpha has a lot at stake. It not only has to be a success for its leading lady Alia Bhatt who is on a career low with the failure of Jigra but the real mission for the Shiv Rawail directorial is to resurrect and rescue the YRF Spy Universe.

If Alpha bombs at the box office, there is a high possibility we may see the end of Spy Universe after a total of seven releases.

Also starring Sharvari, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol, Alpha releases in theatres on July 3, 2026, and clashes with Huma Qureshi and Chunky Panday's Baby Do Die Do and Hollywood animated movie Minions & Monsters.
