As Karuppu Hits Rs 300 Cr Box Office, Aamir Khan Congratulates Suriya On Biggest Blockbuster

After failing to deliver a single box office hit in 12 years, Suriya finally delivered a blockbuster success with his latest release Karuppu.

The RJ Balaji directorial became Suriya's top grosser in flat four days and also became his first movie to go past Rs 150 crore mark.

That's not all, the Trisha Krishnan has now hit Rs 300 crore at the worldwide box office in just 15 days and has also become one of the few Tamil movies to hit Rs 200 crore domestically.

Karuppu Enters Top 10 Tamil Grossers At The Worldwide Box Office

This makes Karuppu the 10th biggest worldwide Tamil grosser of all time beating Vijay starrer Varisu.

Aamir Khan Congratulates Suriya On Karuppu's Blockbuster Success

In a recent interview with Cinema Vikatan's YouTube channel, director RJ Balaji opened up about the reaction to Karuppu's massive success from Indian film industry's colleagues and revealed that Aamir Khan too congratulated Suriya.

He said, "After the release of Karuppu, Aamir Khan texted Suriya sir, and he forwarded the message to me. Silambarasan TR also called and wished me. Moreover, many big directors reached out too."

He further admitted that the movie had no story in the second half and it was the first half that carried it at the box office, "I communicated the film correctly. Otherwise, I couldn't have stood up against the criticism from today's social media. People trust me, so I need to tell the truth. We presented a good story in the first half. That's why, even though there wasn't much story in the second half, audiences still enjoyed it."

In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, he had revealed how Rajinikanth too reached out to the team over the movie's success, "Whenever a good film is released, Rajinikanth watches it and personally congratulates the film crew either in person or over the phone. He called me to congratulate me. In his signature style, he said, Balaji, super…super…super, you have achieved it. What a huge hit! We will meet again soon."

Suriya's Next Release After Karuppu

While Karuppu continues to wreak havoc at the box office, Suriya is now gearing up for his next release titled Vishwanath & Sons.

The family entertainer also starring Mamitha Baiju, Radhika Sarathkumar, Kaali Venkat and Raveena Tandon, Vishwanath & Sons is directed by Venky Atluri of Vaathi (2023) and Lucky Baskhar (2024) fame.

It is slated to release in theatres on August 14, 2026.
