Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa Movie Review

Rajat Kapoor, who is the writer, director, producer of the movie and is also acting in it, has hit it out of the park.

Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa starts off like a perfect whodunnit mystery and then holds your attention with its solid writing and strong performances.

I came for the murder mystery angle but stayed for all the drama that ensued. Such was the screenplay of the movie that, after a point, the curiosity around the killer's identity became secondary for me, and it was their personal dysfunctional dynamic that I was more interested in.

Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa is good blend of A Death In The Gunj and Knives Out. And while it really keeps you hooked throughout its runtime, the first hour is a chef's kiss.

The non-linear narrative adds intrigue to the plot, and the wide variety of characters were all fleshed out well.

It also helps that the runtime was just 1 hour and 39 minutes.

The minor downers in the movie are a few hiccups in the second half. Also, the big reveal was quite predictable but again the execution and writing of the "Why" was novel.

The music was passable. The movie is set inside a house, and it works in favour of the narrative.

Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa Cast Performances

Vinay Pathak plays the titular character who, unlike the movie's title, is not very likeable in the movie. Everybody has a reason to hate him, and his antics justify the hatred other characters have towards him.

He is the MVP and delivers a terrific performance as loud, rude and arrogant Sohrab Handa. But there are small moments where you realise who he really is and often puts up an act to play to the people's expectations of how Sohrab Handa should be.

It's a complex character and Vinay Pathak nails it.

The rest of the cast members from Ranvir Shorey, Neil Bhoopalam, Palomi Ghosh, Koel Purie, Danish Hussain, Waluscha De Souza, MK Raina, Saurabh Nayyar, Kankana Chakraborty, Saurabh Shukla, Mahesh Sharma, Malikka Singh and Rajat Kapoor are top notch.

Special mention to Sadiya Siddiqui, Sharat Kataria (director of Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Sui Dhaaga) and Chandrachoor Rai.
