It went on to wreak havoc at the box office earning a record-breaking $217 million in its opening weekend globally, significantly higher than the $150 million projection.

In the US, Michael was projected for a $70 million opening, it eventually made $97 million taking down all previous biopics including Oppenheimer ($82.5M), The Passion Of The Christ ($83.4M) and American Sniper ($89.3M).

As for the musical biopics, the number is almost double of the previous bests - Straight Outta Compton ($60.2M) and Bohemian Rhapsody ($51.1M).

While it made $97 million in the US, the movie collected a whopping $120.40 million internationally for a global opening of $217.40 million.

Before Michael, the biggest worldwide biopic opener was Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer which went on to do $180.40 million and Bryan Singer's Bohemian Rhapsody which opened to $141.70 million.

While Oppenheimer went on to do $975.80 million at the worldwide box office on a $100 million budget, Bohemian Rhapsody collected $910.80 million on a $55 million budget.
