Matka King Trailer: Vijay Varma Is The Great Gambler In Nagraj Manjule's Prime Video Show

After making acclaimed movies like Fandry (2013), Sairat (2016) and Jhund (2022), filmmaker Nagraj Manjule is making his debut in a longform storytelling with the upcoming web series Matka King.

Starring Vijay Varma in the lead role, Matka King also stars Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav and Gulshan Grover.

The trailer gives a glimpse of a small-time trader Brij Bhatti who decides to start a local gambling game called "Matka". And that leads to him getting in trouble with authority.

Talking about the show, Vijay Varma said in a statement, "Working in Matka King has been an exhilarating journey. Bringing this world and this character to life was both challenging and deeply fulfilling, especially in the backdrop of a different era altogether that I had never explored before. Also, returning to a Prime Original after Dahaad and Mirzapur is splendid."

He continued, "Our creators, Nagraj Manjule and Abhay Koranne, gave me the creative freedom to dive deep into Brij's world, and working alongside talented co-stars such as Kritika, Sai, and Gulshan Grover, and the entire cast, made it all the more rewarding."

I can't wait for viewers to experience it when the series premieres on Prime Video on April 17."

Matka King Synopsis, Star Cast & Release Date

The official synopsis of the movie reads, "Spanning the years 1964 to 1975, Matka King is the story of Brij Bhatti, an enterprising cotton trader who teams up with a disgraced ex-soldier and an upper-class widow to start a gambling game called 'Matka', turning an elite hobby into a parallel economy and an alternative system for a generation that feels let down by the country as it settles into life as a free republic."

Besides Vijay Varma, Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav and Gulshan Grover, the show also stars Bhupendra Jadawat, Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishor Kadam, Cyrus Sahukar, Arpita Sethiya, Sambhaji Tangade, Ishtiyak Khan, Sanjivv Jotangia and Simran Ashwini.

Matka King begins streaming on Prime Video from April 17, 2026, onwards.
