Argentina are expected to win, so barring any huge upsets, Messi will also join Mbappe in the last 16.

Erling Haaland Closing in

One man giving tough competition to Mbappe and Messi is Norway's Erling Haaland. The young man in his first-ever World Cup has scored five goals in three games. He was not used vs France in the last group game but had braces vs Iraq and Senegal followed by a goal vs Ivory Coast in the Round of 32. Haaland too is in the last 16 and will face Brazil.

Harry Kane in Hot Pursuit

Another player to join the already tight Golden Boot race is England's Harry Kane. His brace vs DR Congo in the Round of 32 rescued England and set up a Round of 16 clash vs Mexico. Earlier, he had netted a brace in the group stage vs Croatia before going goalless vs Ghana. In a crucial group game vs Panama, he found the back of the net to take England to the knockouts. Along with Haaland, Kane is closing in on Mbappe and Messi.

Of course, who finishes with how many goals also depends on how deep one's team goes in the tournament. If all of them advance into the last eight, then the race gets even more interesting.
