This was not a new joke cracked by Ranveer. It has been cracked multiple times by different people.
Comedian Kanan Gill had said it on his talkshow with Jackky Bhagnani and Lauren Gotlieb in 2015 and it has also been asked on an Australian game show called 'Truth or Drink' two weeks ago.
The blame
Some people are blaming Ranveer for his comment, whereas many of them are saying that Samay Raina is at fault for endorsing such content.
But whose fault is it?
It is the fault of our perception. Let me explain how:
Samay can't be held accountable, as he has been performing such jokes since the beginning of his career, and this wasn't his first Latent episode either.

People are well aware of his content and what to expect from him. There is a reason why he published the episodes based on membership.
Ranveer's image
Ranveer is getting trolled because of his 'holier-than-thou' image.
He always projected himself as a spiritual guy who promotes 'Sanatan dharma'.
Apart from this, he also shared stage with PM Modi and received the creator's award from him; he has done podcasts with almost all the top cabinet ministers, which makes him more vulnerable to all the trolling. Yes, people were making memes out of his podcast, but it was all harmless until he asked the big question.

That question shattered his whole online persona in a few seconds, which caused all this chaos.
This is a testament to the fact that you have to maintain a constant image on social media.
Influencer and actress Kusha Kapila is also another example who faced a lot of trolling and was labelled as a 'hypocrite' after she stopped talking about body positivity after losing weight.

Even Arpit Bala faced a dip in his viewership after he started streaming sensible content for his toxic audience.
Social media is a brutal place that will accept your raw or made-up image and you can keep reaping the benefits until you don't break that preconceived notion.
