The Boys Ending Explained: Who Dies & Who All Survive In Butcher Vs Homelander's Final Battle

The best superhero show, Prime Video's The Boys came to an end after seven years and five entertaining seasons with the bloody and epic final battle between Billy Butcher and Homelander.

Billy Butcher's quest to kill Homelander since season one episode one led to the final epic and bloody face-off inside White House and the result was entertaining, bitter-sweet and highly satisfying.

The Boys Final Season Ending Explained: Who Dies In Homelander vs Butcher's Fight

The Boys season 5 started on a strong note but dipped a bit towards the end and that led to many fans fearing if we were heading towards a poor finale just like Stranger Things and Game of Thrones.

But showrunner Eric Kripke pulls off a miracle with its final episode. The Butcher finally gets his one last chance to take on Homelander and he makes the most of the opportunity.

The final episode features Homelander at the Oval in White House declaring himself as the new God and his speech is livestreaming across America.

Butcher along with The Boys infiltrates White House and with the help of an unlikely ally in Ashley, escapes the trap set by Oh-Father.

Ashley then leads Butcher and Kimiko directly to the Oval where Homelander is; Starlight takes on a weeping Deep (after Homelander tells him he us useless and he respects him the least in the world) and Hughie and Mother's Milk fight Oh-Father.

Just as Oh-Father is about to kill Hughie, Mother's Milk using his wits does a "reverse uno" on him and his own superpower results in his "head blasting" death.

Starlight takes a flight with Deep outside the White House and on a beach where she tries to reason with him. But Deep thinks of it as an opportunity to kill Starlight and offers her as a present to Homelander and get in his good books.

Of course, it doesn't end well for Deep and he is thrown into the Ocean where fishes and other sea animals kill him.

Meanwhile, Butcher breaks into the Oval, leaving Homelander startled as well as amused. The two get into a brutal fist fight using their superpowers. And that's when Butcher reintroduces Kimiko who now possesses an energy blast power similar to what Soldier Boy has.

This leaves Homelander worried who tries to escape but is stopped by Ryan at the last moment. Butcher and Ryan team up and get hold of Homelander who is the blasted by Kimiko.

This leads to Homelander, Butcher and Ryan losing their powers. Homelander without his powers still tries to take on Butcher but this time he is no match to him.

Butcher finally gets an upper hand and gives Homelander the beating of a lifetime leaving him crying and begging for mercy, and the same is watched by the entire country live on TV.

Butcher then finally kills Homelander using his trademark crowbar while remembering Becca as well as Frenchie.

What Happens To Butcher, Hughie, Mother's Milk, Ashley & Starlight?

After Homelander is finally defeated and killed, Butcher tries to reconcile with Ryan who rebuffs him saying that he isn't any better than Homelander and it's not that he chose him just because he fought the supe.

A disheartened Butcher returns to his room only to find his only family; his pet dog Terror is dead. This further makes Butcher unhinged who takes the supe killing virus and decides to massacre all the supes in the world.

He is stopped by Hughie who tries to reason with him, but Butcher beats him up and is about to push the switch to release the virus but stops at the final second as he sees Lenny in a roughed-up Hughie.

However, it was too late by then as Hughie already shoots Butcher to death who refuses the treatment in his final breath and praises Hughie for having a good heart.

Butcher is buried right next to the love of his live Becca, and his funeral is attended by Hughie, Starlight, Mother's Milk, Kimiko and Ryan.

Sometime later, MM remarries his wife with Ryan as his best man. Kimiko is shown visiting Marseille, France in memory of Frenchie.

Ashley refuses to resign as the US President but is later voted out and arrested by FBI.

Hughie is offered to lead the superhuman affairs for White House by the new US President, but he refuses and instead now owns an Audio-Visual shop with his Starlight who is pregnant with his baby but continues to help people in trouble using her powers.

Sage, it was earlier, shown had lost her powers after she forced Kimiko to test her blast on her. Sage is now a normal, dumb human, instead of the world's most intelligent person.

What's Next After The Boys?

While The Boys has come to an end and Gen V is cancelled after two seasons, the world of Boys will continue with a prequel series titled Vought Rising led by Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy.
