Lionel Messi Expected to Lead in FIFA World Cup
Messi is expected to be the captain and this is supposed to be his last World Cup. He led Argentina to the title in 2022 and was also at the helm when they lost the 2014 final. He turns 39 during the tournament. The World Cup begins on June 11 and Argentina's opening game is on June 16 vs Algeria. There are two friendlies vs Honduras and Iceland on June 6 and June 9 respectively.

"Inter Miami CF's captain had to leave the field yesterday, Sunday, May 24, during the match against Philadelphia Union, due to physical discomfort. After undergoing further medical tests this Monday, the initial diagnosis indicates an overload associated with muscle fatigue in his left hamstring. The timeline for his return to physical activity will depend on his clinical and functional progress," Inter Miami said in a statement.
No Injury at All?
Inter Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos said that there was no fitness issue and that Messi had left the field due to fatigue. Fans will want the star to start the World Cup completely fit.
