Malda: In a major political setback for the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) ahead of the Assembly elections, senior leader Mohammad Tohidur Rahaman has resigned from all party posts and primary membership, citing serious ethical concerns with the party leadership.

Rahaman, who held key positions as the state vice-president and Malda district general secretary, was also the party's MLA candidate from the Manikchak Assembly Constituency. His resignation on Friday has triggered intense discussion within local political circles.

In his resignation letter addressed to the party Chairman, Rahaman wrote: "Recent activities within the party and certain unethical actions by the Chairman are not in alignment with my principles, ideals, and moral values." He further stated: "It is not possible for me to continue being associated with actions that go against my personal beliefs and integrity."

Announcing his decision at a Press conference at the Malda Press Corner in English Bazar, Rahaman said: "I have voluntarily resigned from all posts and the primary membership of AJUP with immediate effect." He also expressed hope that his decision would be accepted with due respect.

The development comes at a crucial time, with elections approaching and is expected to have an impact on the party's organisational strength in Malda, particularly in the Manikchak Constituency.
