Patna: RJD's national working president Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday alleged there has been an "alarming rise" in incidents of crimes against women in Bihar and charged the BJP-led NDA government in the state with failure to ensure their safety.
Yadav, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, alleged that the law and order situation has completely collapsed in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, Yadav said, "The law and order in Bihar has completely collapsed. Crimes against women are continuously rising across Bihar, but the state government has miserably failed to check those. NDA leaders are patronising criminals and mafia... Women and daughters are not safe in the state."
The morale of criminals is high due to the patronage of the ruling dispensation, he alleged.
"Who will take responsibility for Bihar's collapsed and corrupt law and order situation?" he said.
Yadav also alleged that "caste-based encounters" are being carried out in the state.
He said not a single day goes by in Bihar without incidents of murder, rape, molestation or other crimes.
The government is least bothered about these, the RJD leader claimed.
Launching a sharp attack on the NDA government in Bihar, Yadav accused the dispensation of betraying women of the state.
"This government had lured women voters by transferring Rs 10,000 into their bank accounts days before the assembly polls in Bihar. They were promised further installments of Rs 2 lakh after the elections, with assurances that within six months the remaining amount would be credited to their accounts. Six months have passed but where is the second instalment?" he asked.
"The treasury is empty, and the financial condition of the state government is worsening," he said.
Yadav also questioned the government's claim of ensuring women's empowerment.
He said a large population of women in Bihar still struggle with issues such as anaemia, even though the government is releasing large advertisements promoting women's development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched Bihar's Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, and transferred Rs 10,000 each to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women in September 2025.
The scheme, an initiative of Bihar's NDA government, is aimed at promoting women's empowerment through self-employment and livelihood opportunities.
More than 1.56 crore women have already received Rs 10,000 each, and those who have utilised the sum for setting up businesses will soon get another Rs 2 lakh, officials said.
