New Delhi: In a step towards strengthening sustainable urban infrastructure, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) to launch a pilot horticulture initiative across select metro locations.
The MoU was signed on Tuesday in the presence of Director ICAR-IARI Dr. CH. Srinivasa Rao and Director (Infrastructure), DMRC Manuj Singhal, along with senior officials from both organisations.
The pilot project aims to enhance green cover and improve aesthetics at selected sites, including central verges, areas beneath station structures, and other suitable spaces along metro corridors. Officials said the collaboration would focus on utilising underused urban spaces to create environmentally sustainable landscapes.
Under the agreement, ICAR-IARI will provide technical expertise on selecting plant species suitable for harsh urban conditions, including low-light environments and areas with minimal water availability. It will also guide maintenance practices and conduct periodic evaluations during the pilot phase.
